PPE for RSA is a nonprofit effort to provide emergency personal protective equipment to hospitals and clinicians in South Africa free-of-charge during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is what we do:
-
We find and evaluate possible emergency personal protective equipment alternatives for a South African setting. As we do so, we are guided by available peer-reviewed evidence, collaborations with successful overseas emergency personal-protective-equipment efforts, the experience of frontline healthcare professionals, and the needs of individual hospitals.
-
We partner with local sellers and manufacturers to produce personal protective equipment.
-
We deliver the emergency personal protective equipment free-of-charge to South African hospitals and clinicians.
As South African hospitals navigate COVID-19 at a time of global PPE shortages, they may need to ration their N95 and surgical masks for high risk settings. In this unfortunate event, our goal is to ensure that hospitals have alternative protective equipment so that every person working at or visiting the hospital has some form of PPE to limit their risk of contracting COVID-19.
